Family and Friends...I wanted to update everyone and let you guys know that Kaleb has been doing well at home. We have had some good days and bad days, but we are counting them all joy. So where to start.....Kaleb had a follow up appointment at his peds and he looked and lungs sounded fine. He also had a follow-up eye exam due to being born early and the doctor said that everything looks great and developed fine...so THANK God for that! We have also seen his in-home nurse weekly and she is happy that everything is going well and that Kaleb is doing so well. As for his oxygen, Kaleb has been doing very well staying around .3 of a liter. He also had a BPD appt (oxygen) and the nurses and doctors said everything looked great and that he was gaining weight fine. The doctors did discontinue him on his fluid meds but mentioned that if I noticed a big increase in oxygen or having some swelling, then to contact them for the prescription to start him back on. So far things have been going well and I pray that they continue to do so. On to the g-tube....it is looking and healing fine! In the hospital, Kaleb was taking most of his feedings by bottle, but we've noticed that he doesn't like the breast milk mixed with the powdered version of the calories by mouth. So our solution has been to give hime 1-2 bottles of plain breast milk around 1 oz or so by mouth and I feed him his remainder portion through the g-tube that has the extra calories. So far that has been working out very well and he has been gaining weight steadly. In regards to his weight, Kaleb currently weighs 11 lbs and 9 ozs and measures 23 inches. Can we say...what a BIG BOY! We are so blessed and proud of him......His in-home nurse mentioned that he is right on target and growing properly for his adjusted age of 2 months and 2 weeks; however, we he still has to play catch up to his corrected age of 5 months. We know that God is already in control and in due time Kaleb will be where he needs to be, we are just thanking Him for these days thus far and taking it one step at a time.
As for family adjustments, we all have been doing very well and adjusting fine. Of course, we could all use a little more sleep but my wonderful husband and I are working together great and making things work...which is such a blessing. Braylon is being a great big brother and he is so helpful with Kaleb. He loves giving him kisses and hugs. Sometimes I have to watch him b/c he thinks he can pickup or play with Kaleb when he feels like it....lol Overall, I'm so pleased with the way Braylon is handling Kaleb being home. I find that when we have to take Kaleb to the doctor for check up, Braylon is afraid that he is staying and always asks if he is coming home! :) As for me, I'm adustjusting fine and ensuring that we are giving Braylon his time but making sure he understands that his brother has special needs at the time. I get a little tired and stress a little bit at times, but I step back and thank God for how He has blessed my family and I pray and keep on moving. I take each day at a time and I'm so thankful that my husband is so understanding and always wants to help out. He is such a loving husband and father and I appreciate all that he does for us. I love it when he calls and asks how I'm doing and then says..."How are my boys?" :) I didn't think we would be married and have two boys back in 1999 when we started dating.....gosh...time flies but I wouldn't trade it for nothing in the world. Well, I guess I'll end this post....and hopefully I can write on a weekly basis and post pics. I love you all and thank you for the continued prayers and support!
