My sisters, mother and I met on Wednesday (April 6) morning to continue our study of Galatians chapter 4. This chapter reveals how we were saved from slavery/bondage by the law through Jesus Christ. Because we have accepted Jesus as our Lord in Savior, we are no longer prisoners of the world. In addition, we are God's heirs through Jesus and we can communicate directly and have a personal relationship with him. I love the significance of the scriptures that Jesus was sent at the "right time". This is so important because we have to realize that we aren't on our time...but God's time. When He is ready....His will will be done! So during the times when we are impatient, frustrated, stress, let's stay in prayer and know that God is good and that he will provide....Jehovah Jireh....El Shaddi!
Paul is also concerned about the Galatians...b/c it seems that they had lost their faith in God. Paul reinforces that false teachers are always larking trying to pull them away from God. In our case, we need to be on alert and check those that are preaching the word....don't get caught up to quickly in what people are saying. That's why you have to know the Word for yourself. We also discuss that God will only except those that believe, obedient, and have a relationship with him. It's not what God can do for us...but what are we doing for God...are you showing some signs?
The last portion of the chapter describes God's promise to Abraham (to have a son) but what we find that even though Abraham was faithful to God, the human side of him is still evident and the desire to want to move on his time. We see that Abraham and Sarah try to take things into their own hands and attempt to have a son through their servant Hagar. As a result, Ishmael was born and we find that because of this human attempt at God's promise, this effort was symbolizing the enslavement by the law and that there would be no inheritance. In contrast, Sarah eventually became pregnant up in age and was able to full-fill God's promise with the birth of Isaac, Abraham's true heir and would receive God's inheritance. The importance of this story is that when we take things into our own hands, we are just prolonging God's blessing. We need to be patient and allow God to move in his time. I'm so glad we serve an awesome God...b/c he could have taken away his promise due to Abraham and Sarah's human attempt, but he kept and full-filled his promise.
So let's continue to allow God to be first in our live and wait on him to move. Galatians 6:9 states "So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessings if we don't give up." Amen
